SCHOOL TOURS
The VCCTA will gladly create a children’s tour for a specific age group and can arrange peanut butter & jelly lunch packages as part of group ticket price.
The Virginia & Truckee Railroad and the Virginia Trolley tours both give a comprehensive overall understanding of the historical value of our national landmark and are enjoyed by children of all ages. Other venues including the Silver Terrace Cemetery, The Historic Fourth Ward School, Mark Twain Museum at the Territorial Enterprise, St. Mary’s Art Center, The Way it Was Museum and Piper’s are more age appropriate for an older child.
The Historic Fourth Ward supports a student docent program where seventh and eight grades students from the Virginia City Middle School provide tours for school groups from all over Nevada and parts of California. The program began in 1998 to encourage local students to learn and take part in the history of their town and to provide experience in public speaking, research and community involvement. The “Big Four” offers an all inclusive guided tour for 20 or more which include Historic Fourth Ward School, St. Mary’s Art Center, Piper’s Opera House and the Silver Terrace Cemetery. Call 775 847 0975 for pricing and reservations.
Peanut butter & jelly tours cannot be booked online. Please contact our tour representative, (775) 847-7500 extension 11, or email Patrick Gilmore at pgilmore@visitvirginiacitynv.com
